Snapchat has unveiled its first-ever AI-powered video Lenses, leveraging its in-house generative video model to enhance user experience. The new Lenses, exclusive to Snapchat Platinum subscribers at $15.99 per month, mark a significant step in the platform’s integration of artificial intelligence.
The product release occurred shortly after Snap demonstrated its AI video creation tool at its Partner Summit in September 2019. A company official has authenticated that the AI Video Lenses incorporate sophisticated developments in their technology.
Snap’s long-standing dominance in augmented reality (AR) continues with an AI investment strategy to outcompete platforms such as Instagram and TikTok. Snapchat introduces three AI powered lenses including Raccoon with animated raccoons and Fox with animated foxes while Spring Flowers creates an animated flower reveal effect.
Users find the new Lenses in the Lens carousel to choose an effect before taking snaps from both the front and rear cameras. AI video operations are programmed to save the content directly into Memories.
“These Lenses, powered by our in-house built generative video model, bring some of the most cutting-edge AI tools available today to Snapchatters through a familiar Lens format,” Snap stated in a blog post. “We have a long history of being first movers to bring advanced AR, ML, and AI tools directly to our community, and we’re excited to see what Snapchatters create.”
Snap anticipates that its artificial intelligence capabilities will be improved by the introduction of new AI Video Lenses on a weekly basis. Snap has previously collaborated with OpenAI and Google to create AI-powered features; However, it has recently initiated the development of its own proprietary models.
The company demonstrated its dedication to AI advancement by releasing its AI text-to-image research model that is compatible with mobile devices in February.
