Facebook has officially rolled out a new monetization option that allows creators to earn money from public Stories, expanding its Content Monetization program. This initiative is now available globally to eligible creators.
With this update, creators can generate revenue from content they already share in their Facebook Stories. By engaging their audience, Facebook users can generate additional revenue by creating stories that include video clips, reels, or ordinary life activities.
Facebook will disseminate payment to creators based on performance metrics, without establishing view-based earning thresholds for their content. Meta is implementing this feature as part of its broader strategy to attract creators, despite the competition it confronts from platforms, particularly TikTok.
By activating Facebook Content Monetisation and enabling monetisation for existing Facebook creators, they are able to utilise the new feature without any additional requirements. The program, which was implemented last year, integrates network advertising, Reels advertisement views, and payment incentives into a unified system that simplifies the monitoring of creators’ income from a variety of sources. Facebook has effectively tested the story monetisation features in beta and has now implemented them across the program for eligible creators.
Facebook is committed to providing ongoing assistance to its creator user base. Facebook reported that in 2024, creators garnered more than $2 billion in revenue through platform features, while compensation for Reels and other short-form videos experienced an over 80% increase. Facebook initiated its monetisation program over the past three years and has so far transmitted over four million creator payments.
Creators receive financial compensation based on the extent to which their content resonates with the audience, rather than the number of advertisements that are integrated into their content, through performance-based payments. By employing this method, creators can receive remuneration from the platform without necessitating that their content contain advertisements.
Facebook will introduce open enrollment for any creator who wants to join its monetization program during this current year. Facebook has established a website that is exclusively intended for individuals who are interested in participating in the program.
This latest expansion reflects Meta’s ongoing commitment to fostering a thriving creator economy by providing diverse monetization opportunities across its platforms, including potential future initiatives on Threads.
