PM Modi Sri Lanka Visit Latest Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a ceremony in Sri Lanka on Sunday, April 6, to inaugurate and launch two railway projects in Anuradhapura. These projects have been built with India’s assistance. PM Modi was accompanied by the Sri Lanka President HE Anura Kumara Disanayaka at the event. The two leaders inaugurated the 128 km Maho-Omanthai railway line, which has been refurbished with Indian assistance of $91.27 million.

They also inaugurated the construction of an advanced signaling system from Maho to Anuradhapura. This project is being built with Indian grant assistance to the tune of $14.89.
These railway modernisation projects are part of the India-Sri Lanka development partnership.
The projects mark a significant milestone in strengthening north-south rail connectivity in Sri Lanka.
The projects will also facilitate the fast and efficient movement of both passenger and freight traffic across that country.
In a joint press conference with the Sri Lankan President the previous day, PM Modi said: “As Prime Minister, this is my fourth visit to Sri Lanka. My last visit in 2019 came at a very sensitive time. It was my firm belief at the time that Sri Lanka will rise, and rise stronger. I applaud the courage and patience of the Sri Lankan people, and today, I am happy to see Sri Lanka back on the path of progress.”
PM Modi was feciliated with the ‘Sri Lanka Mitra Vibhushana’ award by President Disanayaka. “This award does not only honour me, but also honours 140 crore Indians. It is a tribute to the historic ties and deep friendship between the people of India and Sri Lanka,” said the Indian PM.

“India is proud to have fulfilled its duties as a true friendly neighbour. Whether it was the terrorist attack of 2019, the COVID pandemic, or the recent economic crisis, we have stood firmly with the people of Sri Lanka during every difficulty,” said PM Modi.
He also said that relations between India and Sri Lanka are based on mutual trust and goodwill.
“We will continue to work together to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of our people,” added PM Modi.
