Belgium look to starve off the threat of relegation in a crunch clash against England in League A3 of 2025 UEFA Women’s Nations League.
Belgium would stay bottom regardless of the result but victory could put them within one point of avoiding automatic relegation to League B ahead of the final double-header in late-May to early-June.
Defeat coupled with a win for Portugal over Spain however would all but mathematically relegate Belgium which would be confirmed in their penultimate game if fail to beat reigning champions – Spain.
England meanwhile will stay top with a win or if Spain fail to better their result.
Team News
Belgium have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 5-0 loss to England in Bristol last Friday (4 April).
Sari Kees and Tessa Wullaert were absent for that game but could return here if fit for selection, although the pair sat out the final training session.
England will be without Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo after the pair returned to Arsenal due to respective foot and ankle injuries.
Michelle Agyemang and Jess Naz consequently have been called up to replace Kelly and Russo in the senior squad.
When is Kick-Off?
Belgium host England at Den Dreef, Leuven, on Tuesday 8 April at 8:30pm CEST (7:30pm UK Time), live on ITV4 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Belgium have won one of their three previous Women’s Nations League meetings against England (W1, L2).
- England lost 3-2 in their only previous Women’s Nations League visit to Belgium in October 2023.
- Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses have kept clean sheets in two of their three previous Women’s Nations League meetings against Belgium.
- Belgium have won two of their last six home games in all competitions (W2, D1, L3).
- No team has conceded fewer goals in this season’s League A3 than England, who have conceded one goal in their three games so far.
Prediction
Having lacked much end product up front on the counter-attack in Bristol amidst some sloppy defensive play, Belgium now need to bounce back with a more polished attacking display otherwise they’re surely all but mathematically down if Portugal beat Spain.
England meanwhile were just fantastic in their intensity, press and final touches even though the first half was a bit scrappy but this is a fresh game, so they can’t afford to get complacent especially given that top spot is still at stake but the confidence from that home win will help them.
As much as Belgium should improve here, I can’t see them getting past England who should be too strong even without Russo up front.
Prediction: Belgium 0-2 England
