Lyon host Manchester United in the first leg of their 2024-25 UEFA Europa League Quarter-Final.
Lyon cruised past FCSB in their Round of 16 tie whilst Man Utd battled past Real Sociedad to set up this Quarter-Final tie.
Team News
Lyon will be without winger, Ernest Nuamah due to an ACL injury which he suffered in their Ligue 1 victory over Lille last weekend.
Man Utd have no fresh injury concerns to report after a goalless Manchester derby against Man City, with Kobbie Mainoo (muscle) potentially set to return.
Jonny Evans (muscle), Matthijs De Ligt, Ayden Heaven (both ankle), Lisandro Martinez (knee) and Amad Diallo (ankle) are still sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Lyon host Man Utd at Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Thursday 10 April at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Lyon’s first Europa League meeting against Man Utd, but are yet to beat the Red Devils in all UEFA competitions (D2, L2).
- Man Utd have drawn each of their two previous visits to Lyon (D2), albeit in the Champions League.
- There has only been one clean sheet in four previous meetings between Lyon and Man Utd, which came at Old Trafford in a 1-0 win for Utd at home in March 2008.
- Lyon have kept two clean sheets in their five Europa League matches at home this season (W3, D1, L1).
- Three of Rasmus Højlund’s five Europa League goals for Utd this season have come away from home.
Prediction
Unbeaten in six of their last seven games and in a tight battle for Champions League qualification via Ligue 1, Lyon really need to continue taking this competition seriously as an alternative qualification route so I do expect them to come out and produce a strong performance given their strong goalscoring threats.
Man Utd on the other hand simply need to find more attacking gears because aside from their initial lightning start against Man City, they were pretty lacklustre on par with City but a clean sheet is a positive that they can use to try and build upon.
Utd’s unbeaten record against Lyon also goes out of the window for me personally as this is a much more vulnerable away team than previous, but anything less than a draw and I think that this might be an uphill battle at home given that Lyon are a step up on Real Sociedad’s quality.
Prediction: Lyon 1-1 Man Utd
