Just when you thought the days of rewinding VHS tapes and flipping through film covers were long gone, Pixie Lott drops ‘Blockbuster Video’—a shimmering pop track steeped in throwback allure, and timed so precisely, it’s almost poetic. The single arrives the same week the iconic video rental chain makes a surprise four-day return to London, resurrected in pop-up form as a Gen Z curiosity and a millennial memory lane. Coincidence? Maybe. Brilliantly on brand? Absolutely.
‘Blockbuster Video’ leans hard into nostalgia without sounding stuck in the past. With sleek production and vocals that slide effortlessly between sultry and soaring, Lott delivers a cinematic anthem about longing, romance, and the kind of love that feels too dramatic to be real—but still rewinds in your head, again and again. There’s a deliberate gloss to it, like something out of a ‘90s teen drama soundtrack, yet it’s fresh enough to land on today’s playlists without irony.
The announcement arrives alongside a live session filmed at Kore Studios in London. Featuring a six-piece band, the stripped-back performance is part of Lott’s ongoing Live at Kore series—and it’s a reminder that behind the polish of studio production is an artist with real vocal power and emotional range. The official music video is set to premiere next Wednesday, April 16 at 6 PM, promising a visual feast to match the single’s retro spirit.
Speaking about ‘Blockbuster Video’, she adds: “This is one of my favourite songs I wrote for Encino. I’m obsessed with nostalgia and this track explores my whole life with little anecdotes from everywhere I’ve lived since the age of 5, all tied up in the core memory of going to Blockbuster every weekend with my dad and brother to choose a movie to watch. Those were the days!”
Visually, ‘Blockbuster Video’ is expected to dive deep into the analog aesthetic—neon glow, grainy textures, and the heart-fluttering unpredictability of a rom-com rental night. Lott’s strength has always been fusing vocal elegance with cinematic storytelling, and here she hits that sweet spot again—evoking an old-school vibe without leaning on parody or pastiche.
The single follows standout tracks ‘Somebody’s Daughter’, ‘Midnight Trash’, ‘Anybody Else‘ and ‘Show You Love‘—all from Encino, her UK Top 10 independent album. Deeply personal and entirely in her control, Encino chronicles themes of romance, family, and growing up, marking a new chapter of autonomy and authenticity in her career.
It’s been a while since Pixie Lott made a major pop culture splash, but ‘Blockbuster Video’ might be her boldest, most confident swing back into the spotlight. Whether it stands as a nostalgic one-off or signals the launch of a full-blown new era, one thing’s clear—Pixie’s pressing play, and she’s not skipping the previews.
