Crystal Palace caretaker manager Paddy McCarthy, speaking to Sky Sports: “Lots of positives to take from the game, we worked their goalkeeper on an number of occasions. We started well and created the two clear cut chances at the start of the game. certainly lots of positives, you could see the fight in the team and they were going forward and pressing him.
On Joachim Andersen’s withdrawal in the warm up: “Things like that happen, there has been illness floating around, it has been a tough week. The Andersen injury 15 minutes before kick off. These things happen in football and they are tough but we have to react to them and I think we did that well.”
“It was hectic, on Thursday morning you get called into action and you have two days. The boys gave it their all and I can’t fault their effort. They’re a great group of lads, they are great people and I definitely believe they have more than enough to get themselves out of this situation.
On managing in the Premier League: “It was all about the score line. I’m disappointed with that. I enjoyed it, the lads were excellent for me. In terms of occasion, I can’t really be positive about it because we lost the game. It was a bit of an experience over the last couple of days and I will probably reflect on it tonight but it was a good experience for me moving forward in my career.”
On still being in charge after the international break: “To be honest I haven’t even thought about it. I haven’t discussed it. My whole though process has been focused on getting the team prepared for today under the circumstances. So I’m going to go home and rest up and see what the next week brings.”
