Lewie Coyle admits to the media after the game at the weekend that his side have suffered a lot this season, but added how he proud of the character the dressing room showed in securing survival.
Hull have gone from finishing 7th in the Championship last season, to having two permanent managers since Liam Rosenior was sacked.
They ended the 2024/25 season, 21st with 49 points from 46 games played, level on points of relegated Luton who had a -24 goal difference compared to Hull’s -10.
“That speaks volumes behind us (referencing the away support singing). They (the fans) travelled in their numbers, they sold it out. We were always going to need them, but massive credit to the boys, the staff and everybody involved in the football club,” Coyle told ITV.
“It’s been a difficult year for us this year. We’ve been at the other end of the table, which is not where we want to be. We’ve suffered a lot this year, at times. A lot of it is down to our own doing. We have to take responsibility as players, we’ve not been good enough at times.
“I know exactly what that means to everyone inside that dressing room, and I couldn’t be more proud of the lads. When our backs were against the wall and the chips were down, I found out a lot about me and my teammates, and it’s made me very proud.”
@davidwhite1975: Leave the bloke alone he’s had dogs abuse at times. Seasons over, the club stayed up. Let him get on with his life.
@LeeScott92: Having met Lewie in the past what I can say he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet! He’s gone through a hell of a lot of abuse this year when yes he has been poor but so has the rest of the squad yet he’s been made the biggest scapegoat, he lost his father. Context needed
@VegasSoup: I don’t even think they really need to comment on it, but fair enough. The video is without context though – no one but a few really know the situation
@TigerBitez1904: Sensible and logical steps by #hcafc after the Lewie Coyle incident and it will depend on a number of factors.
1) who and what started the incident
2) what’s going on in Lewies personal life
3) the moral and ethical demands they value on the captains armband 🧵
@NorthEastTiger6: Video isn’t showing nothing but a mele and someone resembling Lewie getting moved away. It’s obviously him as everyone who was there said it was him and his family but he is allowed to drink and if his family is attacked anyone would defend them. Nothing to investigate IMO
@digitalsunshine: If that really is Lewie Coyle, he is gonna be SO disappointed in himself. I mean, he’s had unacceptable abuse all season, so on one level you can understand it. But he’ll know he’s got to hold himself to higher standards than the rats who dish it out #hcafc
@Bilocca2:
He’s one our own
He’s one our own
Lewie Coyle
He’s one our own
My captain 💪
@LeeScott92: You get what you give! Probably had few too many and sniffed bransholmes finest just before hand, One of the last people you start a fight with is Tommy Coyle. Good on Lewie I’d have done the same thing if that was my family. Case closed #hcafc
@JacobAn92630686: It didn’t look good yesterday for Lewie but this shows exactly why you need context first. Defending his brother and nobody can complain at him for doing so. He’s actually gone up in my estimations. Well done coyley #hcafc
