At the promotion parade, Ethan Ampadu sings an x-rated Willy Gnonto chant that Leeds once urged their own fans to change the lyrics of.
You can tell he’d had way to much to drink, after he sang: “Willy Gnonto, drinks Moretti, eats spaghetti his c***’s f****** massive and I tell you what, it f****** is!”
The huge crowd watching and singing along in Leeds city centre can be heard laughing at just what Ethan Ampadu had to say…

In January 2023, Leeds United urged fans to change the lyrics of a chant for Wilfried Gnonto after Kick It Out, an anti-discrimination organisation, flagged it as perpetuating harmful racial stereotypes.
The original chant, sung to the tune of Los Lobos’ 1987 hit La Bamba, included lines like “Willy Gnonto, eats spaghetti, drinks Moretti, his c***’s f****** massive,” which sparked controversy for its offensive and stereotypical content at the time.
The club issued a statement acknowledging the chant’s problematic nature and encouraged supporters to adapt it to maintain passion while being respectful.
Then-manager Jesse Marsch also commented, expressing appreciation for the fans’ love for Gnonto but suggesting modifications to make the chant more appropriate.
“I think the point would be that we always want to be respectful,” he said.
“I think in our sport, it’s so important to maintain high levels of respect and I know it within our group, we have that at the highest level.
“I think our fans are great, you know, they show passion. They want the team to be successful. They can be hard on the team sometimes and hard on me about what we’re doing and we understand that and I love how much they love Willy.
“I will be walking around my house chanting or like whistling the tune in my head sometimes but is there a way to modify it to be as passionate but be more respectful. That’s what I would say.”
Fans were first heard singing the chant on his home debut against Bournemouth in 2022, causing Leeds to give with a list of alternative last line of ‘he plays for United’.
Despite engaging with fan groups to try and get the lyrics changed, the original lines could still be heard sang around Elland Road… and clearly, at the 2025 promotion parade by one of their own players.
In a statement anti-discrimination group Kick it Out said in 2023: “While we believe the majority of fans singing this chant are not doing so with racist intent, we would stress that racial stereotypes are harmful and offensive, irrespective of the intention to show support for a player.
“We urge fans to show support with family-friendly language. We will be working closely with Leeds to ensure action is taken.”
Gnonto said after winning the title with Leeds at the weekend, per YEP: “I think it’s one of the best days of my life.
“Honestly, I feel like when we grow up, we dream of days like this.
“Having the chance to score to win the league is just incredible and I am so happy to have the chance to play with these guys in front of these fans. It makes me so proud.”
Assessing the challenge that Plymouth presented and his own 53rd-minute equaliser, Gnonto said: “I think probably one of the easiest goals. But you have to be there.
“I am happy because I helped the team, at the end of the day, if we lost or we drew it would have had no importance so I am just happy because we won and that’s the most important.
“It wasn’t the easiest game, we knew that obviously they were relegated but in the last period that had lots of good results so we knew that it was going to be a tough game.
“The first half probably wasn’t the best, we were a bit unlucky but in the second half we knew that we could turn the game and were lucky to score quite early as well and we believe until the end.”
