Fans wish get well soon message to Swindon boss Ian Holloway seen with a large swelling on his face in the MK Dons game on Saturday.
Swindon Town fans have been wishing a speedy recovery to manager Ian Holloway after he was seen with noticeable swelling on his face, caused by recent surgery to remove a skin cancer growth.
Despite the procedure earlier in the week, Holloway was back in the dugout for Swindon’s 0-0 draw against MK Dons on May 3rd 2025, showing his dedication to the team.
Supporters have taken to social media to express their concern and support, praising his resilience while urging him to prioritise his recovery.
The outpouring reflects the strong bond Holloway has built with the fanbase since taking over in October 2024, revitalising the club and steering them to a mid-table finish in League Two.
Holloway, who was in the dugout despite having surgery on a skin cancer growth on his face earlier in the week, said he was shocked not to see the referee give the decision against his side.
Ian Holloway said before the game, per Swindon Advertiser: “Given the way they played under Scott Lindsey, we didn’t get anywhere near stopping their patterns. We knew what they were but the outfootballed us.
“I am surprised and it proves it is not all about the budget.
“Your identity doesn’t grow if you keep changing the manager, but they have to earn the right. You go through ups and downs and move the club in the right way.
“My experience has given me all of those things and I am at a wonderful time in my life, I used to go out in the sun, I get skin cancer problems, definitely put 50 on and keep covered.
“I have a huge scar on the right side of my face now and there will probably be more bits of me in a jar than here. You can’t hide that fact.
“We are playing them and we have finished above them, if you told me that, this is football for you.
“They have a magnificent stadium and a hell of a budget.
“What we need to do is play a damn sight better than we did in the first game.
“It was a bucket of water over your head. Money doesn’t buy it.”
After the game: “I felt they should have had a penalty,” he said per miltonkeynes.co.uk after the game. “Ollie should’ve been sent off, he rugby tackled the bloke as he went into the box. Wow, he meant to bring him down but it was all quite surreal.
“It’s an amazing achievement from the players, and everybody in this ground. What we’ve achieved here is amazing.
“We didn’t have a killer instinct today, but I think that’s because we were safe. But I feel I’ve failed, I wanted to get into the play-offs, so I’ll do everything I can to get to where I think we should be.
“I thought we played quite well. I saw two good sets of players playing some nice football, it’s just a shame it wasn’t what we wanted. We definitely played well enough, we didn’t create enough so it is what it is.
“We definitely played much better than we did last time against them. We got around them, we won it back, we moved it around them but we didn’t quite have that penetration we needed to score.”
