AC Milan can thank Christian Pulisic for helping them remain in the top-six race.
Pulisic set up the Rossoneri’s equalizing goal against Bologna on Friday before scoring the eventual winner in a 3-1 home triumph. The U.S. men’s national team star earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors for his latest gem in the Red and Black colors of AC Milan.
The Rossoneri fell down 1-0 in the early stages of the second half but used a strong 20+ minutes from Pulisic to flip the match in their favor. Pulisic set up substitute forward Santiago Gimenez for the tying goal in the 73rd minute.
Pulisic called his own number six minutes later to make it 2-1 Milan before Gimenez put the match on ice in stoppage time.
The 26-year-old Pulisic now has 29 goal contributions this season, which is his best campaign to date at club level. AC Milan’s win moved them three points back of sixth-place AS Roma heading into this week’s Coppa Italia Final.
The Rossoneri will travel to Roma on May 18 before concluding the league campaign against Monza on May 25.
Here is a closer look at the top Americans Abroad performers from the past week:
Weston McKennie
Weston McKennie was one of the few bright spots in Juventus’ 1-1 Serie A draw with Lazio.
McKennie registered his third assist of the season, setting up Randal Kolo Muani with a dangerous cross. The USMNT midfielder played the full 90 minutes in the match, continuing what has been a productive season in Turin.
Naomi Girma
Chelsea concluded its WSL season on Saturday with USWNT defender Naomi Girma shining in defense.
Girma completed two tackles, won six duels, and made four clearances in Chelsea’s 1-0 home victory over Liverpool. The 24-year-old only recently returned to action from injury, but looks to be ending her first European season on a high note.
Mark McKenzie
Mark McKenzie delivered an impactful performance in his return for Toulouse.
McKenzie set up the opening goal of Toulouse’s 1-1 home draw with Lens on Saturday. The USMNT center back missed the last two matches through suspension, but picked up where he left off in defense.
Auston Trusty
Auston Trusty impressed in his first Celtic start since April 6.
Trusty played the full 90 minutes as the Scottish champions defeated Hibernian 3-1 in Glasgow. The USMNT defender won three duels, completed 97% of his passes, and made 11 clearances, filling in for the absent Cameron Carter-Vickers.
