Client Home Sweet Home: Amber’s Home Tour Pt. 2

Welcome back to the grand tour of Client Home Sweet Home, also known as my personal home in Southern California! Today I’m spilling the beans on all things kitchen, breakfast nook, and dining room. Chances are you’ve seen these spaces on my IG or styled up for a Shoppe shoot, but I’m a firm believer that it’s the details that make a difference. So before I get into the deets— like paint colors, sources, and more — let me remind you how these spaces looked before I got my paws on it…

Kitchen

Right off the family room, (ICYMI, check out part one!) is one of my favorite places in the house — the kitchen. I wanted it to be warm, yet spacious and welcoming. I completely transformed this space, trading the crisp white cabinet paint color for a rich, warm brown and the shiny wood floors for rustic brick pavers. These choices alone added so much character to the space, while also knockin’ the cozy factor up a few notches. 

Speaking of, let’s run through a few of my faves, shall we?! First up is this custom kitchen island — the true centerpiece of the kitchen. Designed for both function and connection, it offers ample space for cooking while doubling as a hub for hanging with the fam. Also wanna take a moment for the glorious range hood liner; As you can see from the before pics, the former was copper and was a little too ‘farmhouse’ for this space. Soooo, I had this beauty installed and gave it a painted drywall finish to match the walls, creating a really cohesive and elevated look.

Breakfast Nook

Hi, me again, and this part of the monologue is all about the breakfast nook. When I first toured the home, this space felt like an odd extension of the kitchen. I wanted to make this an intentional place where we could sit and eat, hang, or I could enjoy a cup o’ joe before running out the door in the AM. So I got to work tweaking a few details that ultimately elevated this space (in my humble opinion.)

Although many consider wainscoting outdated, I disagree — I think it added character to this space. However, I do believe there is a method to the madness! What worked here was giving it all a fresh coat of paint and installing a textured grasscloth wallpaper. This not only added some much-needed dimension, but offered a modern twist to balance out the more traditional elements within the space. Another focus of this area was choosing furniture that served the space functionally without compromising the vibe. Did I nail that with this banquette, or what?! I’ve designed many a banquette, similar to the one you see here, for myself and my clients over the years. I loved the look so much that I included a customizable option when I released The Senna Dining Banquette as a part of the Amber Lewis x Four Hands collection. Shoppe the Breakfast Nook

Dining Room

So we’ve finally made it to the third and final space (for today.) The dining room, similar to the whole dang place, had very good bones. All I did here was swap the outdated, recessed lighting for beautiful pendant fixtures and give the interior a fresh coat of paint — find details below, as per ushe. BUT, the best part of this space is the gorgeous and ginormous, vintage apothecary cabinet along the back wall. Similar to the vintage hutch in the living room, I cannot remember where I picked this beauty up. The piece itself is one of my very favorite vintage finds, but I’ve had so much fun styling the top with some of my favorite art, trinkets, and décor.
