Ambedkar Jayanti or Bhim Jayanti is observed on April 14 every year to commemorate the memory of B.R. Ambedkar, a social reformer and the architect of the Indian Constitution. This year, Ambedkar Jayanti is falling on Monday. Throughout the nation, this day is celebrated, particularly in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. Since it’s a national holiday, in some states, schools and colleges will be closed, while in others, banks, offices will be closed.
The central government declared April 14 a public holiday. The Reserve Bank of India’s annual holiday calendar also lists the day as a holiday in the majority of states.
Bank holiday on April 14
The banks will be closed in Tripura, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Chandigarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.
Thus, banks will remain open in Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh.
The physical branches will be closed, while customers can continue to access internet banking, SMS banking, and WhatsApp banking for both financial and non-financial transactions.
Government offices
In UP, the government has declared Ambedkar Jayanti a public holiday. Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has declared April 14 a public holiday in all government offices in Delhi.
