Chelsea’s quest to return as WSL champions continued midweek with the league leaders remaining unbeaten.
Catarina Macario scored his third goal of the season and seventh overall in all competitions as Chelsea defeated Leicester City 3-1. Macario opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Agnes Beever-Jones and Erin Cuthbert added additional goals for the hosts.
Despite Yuka Momiki’s second-half goal for Leicester, Chelsea would hang on to move eight points clear at the top of the WSL table.
Macario also won five duels, made one interception, and two tackles in the victory.
The U.S. women’s national team attacker will aim to remain in the starting lineup this weekend when Chelsea hosts Crystal Palace in FA Cup action.
In Europe, Johnny Cardoso and Real Betis drew at home in Europa Conference League play. Richie Ledezma and PSV suffered a demoralizing loss in Champions League action.
In England, Ethan Horvath and Cardiff City lost at home vs. Burnley.
