Chelsea’s latest WSL victory on Wednesday moved them one step closer to the league title and U.S. women’s national team forward Catarina Macario played a major role in the result.
Macario scored twice as Chelsea rolled past London rivals Crystal Palace 4-0, moving six points clear atop the WSL standings. The versatile forward scored Chelsea’s second and third goals of the match, delivering one of her better performances of the season.
The 25-year-old has jumped in-and-out of the Chelsea starting lineup this season as the Blues balance multiple competitions. Macario now has eight goals between WSL and Women’s Champions League play, helping Chelsea lift one trophy already this season, and remain in contention for three more.
Fellow USWNT attacker Mia Fishel wrapped up the victory with her first goal of the season.
Chelsea next welcomes Barcelona to London on Sunday, seeking a major second result to remain in the Champions League. Following that, the Blues have three league matches to play before a showdown with Manchester United in the Women’s FA Cup Final on May 18.
Elsewhere, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan advanced to the Coppa Italia Final. Weston McKennie and Juventus suffered a setback in Serie A play. Richie Ledezma started in PSV’s road win over FC Twente. Bryan Reynolds and Marlon Fossey both went the distance in Belgian league action. Christian Cappis and Viking advanced in the Norwegian Cup.
