After AVM has mainly ironed out mistakes with the last updates for its routers, the focus of the current laboratory is back on new functions. Two models start and get a number of fresh features.
Fritzos 8.10 is tested
Since the end of 2024 it has been quiet about the laboratory of the network specialists from Berlin. Since then, only a handful of Fritzboxes has received new beta firmware, such as the 5G and LTE models in the form of Fritzos 8.03 more than a month ago.
Otherwise there was only a laboratory update for the Fritzsmart Gateway. But from today AVM starts a new cycle and begins with the distribution of beta versions of Fritzos 8.10. In contrast to the updates of recent times, the manufacturer focuses on bringing new functions on its routers. The following two models start:
- Fritzbox 7590 – Version: 8.10-19980
- Fritzbox 7590 AX – Version: 8.10-19982
Some of the highlights
A large innovation concerns the update of child protection. The user interface for filters now shows the access profiles and the associated devices clearly on one side. In addition, the tickets for online time can now be easily found via its own tab and were increased from ten to twelve.
The default protection is also a practical innovation. This means that owners of a Fritzbox always remain online, even if the glass fiber, DSL or cable connection is unstable or fails. In such a case, a FRITZBOX, which is compounded by LAN/LAN, ensures the fallback connection via mobile radio or USB mobile radio sticks, as AVM writes
All innovations and improvements
In addition to these functions in the Internet area, there are other innovations in the WiFi, smart home and in other categories. Some improvements for the system and storage/NAS are also included in Fritzos 8.10. Internet
- New: The Fritzbox always remains online via the new default protection: If the internet connection fails, an alternative internet connection is made via an access device, e.g. B. via mobile communications, with Fritzbox 6820 LTE or USB mobile radio sticks
- New: Simplified user tour on the “Filter” pages (child locking)
- Improvement: Online monitor: revised presentation in the diagrams for the utilization of the internet connection
- Improvement: If the system time cannot be determined via the time he sets, the system time is obtained from a public time server
- Change: Fritz products in the home network, e.g. B. Fritz Repeater, are no longer offered in child locking and prioritization, they always have unlimited internet access with normal priority
- Change: Private IPV4 addresses (RFC 1918) are no longer published via MyFritznet (DNS) if a publicly accessible IPV6 address is available
WLAN
- NEW: Mesh repeater mode: Use Fritzbox 7590 AX as a mesh repeater, e.g. B. after buying a new Fritzbox (Fritzbox 7590 AX)
Mesh
- New: Automatic detection of the device type (e.g. smartphone, computer or printer) for devices that are displayed in the mesh overview
Telephony
- Improvement: Stability of phone calls increased
DECT/Fritzfon
- Improvement – continuation of podcasts after interruption possible
Smart home
- New: The following functions can now also be controlled with Fritzsmart Control 440: the boost and frost protection function for radiator regulators, the color and color temperature for lamps, the activation and deactivation of routines and the display of the QR code for the WLAN (more [5])))
- NEW: Routines can also be triggered by a telephone call, through a target temperature reached or by the boost and frost protection activation as well as by important events of the FritzBox
Storage/NAS

- Improvement: Improved interoperability to FTP applications (e.g. FileZilla) by supporting the MFMT command
- Improvement: Simplified creation of release links

- Improvement: Establishment of the “Forgot password” function of the push service is now possible with freely selectable recipients

Additional error deposits
In addition to the new functions, the laboratory update for Fritzos 8.10 also contains a number of error fixes that make the experience, operation and operation of the routers even more rounded internet
- Activation of the UPNP filter had no effects for IPV6
- With providers without the support of IPV6, no consumption values were counted in the online counter as long as IPV6 was activated in the access data of the FRITZ! Box

For safety reasons, however, users should make a backup of the settings of their router before opening. This means that the FritzBox can be easily returned to the state before the update if you have any problems with the new software.
