WhatsApp tests a new function that gives users more control over their chat content. With the “Advanced Chat Privatate Palace”, chat partners should neither be able to automatically save the media nor export complete chat processes in the future.
More control over shared content
This reports the online magazine WhatsApp Betainfo. The function was discovered by the experts when trying it out in the current beta versions for iOS (version 25.10.10.70) and Android (version 2.25.10.14). WhatsApp tests this new function called “Extended Chat Privatate Pair”, which should give users more control over shared content. In the future, it can be prevented from automatically saving the media received in the photo gallery or complete chat processes are exported.
This function is still in development and is therefore not yet generally available for beta testers.
Transparency and limits
The setting can be activated in individual and group chats and is reminiscent of disappearing messages: pictures and videos are not automatically saved, the export of the entire chat is blocked. All participants of a chat can switch the function on or off.
Changes are displayed in the chat by system message to ensure transparency – so it is not a secret feature. However, there are restrictions: individual messages can continue to be forwarded, and screenshot detection should not be provided either. According to WhatsApp, such protective mechanisms would be easy to avoid anyway.
Further functions in progress
In addition, WhatsApp works on a revised call interface. In the future, users should be able to mute video calls or deactivate the camera in advance. Emoji reactions in current calls are also planned. The extended chat private sphere is expected to be rolled out with a later update. An appointment has not yet been determined.
