A batsman scoring hundred individual runs in a single game and single innings, is known as a century in cricket and here, we’ve listed down all the centuries ever scored in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The tournament is the most popular T20 competition across the world, where centuries means fireworks in the stadiums, big hits and plenty of entertainment for all.
T20 cricket is a batsman’s game and over 18 editions of the Indian Premier League so far, we’ve managed 101 IPL centuries (updated 22nd March 2025), with the most centuries in a particular season coming most recently in IPL 2024 where 14 centuries were scored in the season. From these, we have 47 individual centurions who have made at least one entry into the IPL centuries list over the years.
Of course, the leader of them all is Virat Kohli, who has scored 8 of these centuries himself, while Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler is close behind him with 7 IPL centuries. Kohli had a magical season in IPL 2016 where he scored 4 of these IPL centuries in a single season, while Buttler scored 3 in a season in IPL 2022 recently, and two more in IPL 2024.

The team breakdown sees RCB with the most number of IPL tons (19 centuries), while Rajasthan Royals follows closely with 17 IPL hundreds to their name. The only teams to have never got an IPL individual century are the now defunct trio of Pune Warriors India, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, and Gujarat Lions. The second edition of the tournament was IPL 2009 and this tournament was shifted to South Africa, where pitches were different and through the entire season, we saw only 2 centuries which is the lowest for any season of the IPL so far. With coronavirus hitting the world early in 2020, there was a lot of question over whether or not the IPL 2020 would take place. Finally after a lot of delaying, the season took place in UAE amidst plenty of security and safety protocols. Chris Gayle’s 175* remains the highest individual score in IPL history and we don’t see this record being broken anytime soon. Brendon McCullum’s knock of 158* in the first ever IPL match in 2008 is the second highest score, and he remains the only New Zealand player to get an IPL century. The highest IPL score by an Indian player is KL Rahul’s 132* against RCB in IPL 2020.
India leads the countries count when it comes to IPL centuries, getting 49 of the total of 101 IPL hundreds so far. Behind them is Australia with 17 IPL centuries, closely followed by England who have contributed to 14 tons on the complete IPL hundreds list so far. South Africa has 9 IPL centuries, West Indies 8, and New Zealand and Sri Lanka 2 each.
