Donald Trump has made a head-turning move by recently naming April 2, 2025, “Liberation Day.” Simultaneously, the president has caused a frenzy by starting a global trade war. A blanket ten percent tariff has reportedly been placed on all goods entering the country. Additionally, new duties have reportedly been placed on imported goods from 185 countries.
Apparently, the president believes these steps are key to rebalancing the country’s economy and labor shortage. However, the uncertainty behind the steps has left even the strongest Trump supporters seemingly quieting their tune.
Will the uncertainty prove to be worth it? Or will it all come crashing down with a man-made recession?
Well, The Shade Room’s correspondent A.B. Burns-Tucker is exploring the topic on ‘TSR Newz.’
More Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day”
According to Burns-Tucker, when Trump initially announced his plan for tariffs, he explained that they would only be imposed if another country imposed them against the U.S. first. Instead, per the host, economy experts are calling Trump on his bluff. Furthermore, a journalist from the New York Times has reportedly called the president’s tariffs a “childish formula” that only focused on “trade imbalances between countries.”
Furthermore, the host shared how this “imbalance” appears to be incorrectly calculated.
“Trump previously said that the key to successful negotiations is to size up your opponent. You have to know what they want, what they need, and where they’re vulnerable,” Burns-Tucker told viewers. “He has also said that his style of deal-making is to aim very high and keep pushing until he gets what he wants.”
Did Trump Aim Too High On His Tariff Plans?
Per Burns-Tucker, many Americans have been left “shocked” to see the country’s trading partners “hit with such high numbers.” The European Union has reportedly received a 20% tariff, China a 34% tariff, Japan a 24% tariff, and Vietnam a 46% tariff.
Scroll above to watch as Burns-Tucker poses the question of whether Trump’s heavy tariff hand will work in the country’s favor or lead to its downfall. Additionally, she shares an update on the tariffs’ apparent impact on the global stock market. And how the president himself — along with the White House — has reacted.
Lastly, be sure to tap in on Tuesday, April 8, at 6 PM PST/9 PM EST on @theshaderoom’s TikTok for ‘Read The Room’, where A.B. Burns-Tucker and guests will break it all down!
