Saturday marked a frustrating day in the history of Cardiff City.
Ethan Horvath and the Bluebirds suffered relegation from the EFL Championship on Saturday following a 0-0 home draw with West Bromwich Albion. Victories for Plymouth Argyle, Derby County, and Luton Town also condemned the Welsh club to England’s third-tier for next season.
Horvath made six saves in the result, but the Bluebirds failed to break down the West Brom backline over 90 minutes. The result extended their winless run to seven matches.
The U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper has made 19 appearances for the Welsh club this season across all competitions. However, relegation to League One will likely force Horvath to look for a new opportunity this summer.
Cardiff City will close its competitive schedule against Norwich City on May 3.
Wright, Morris fighting for final playoff spot
The final two promotion playoff spots will be up for grabs on the final day.
Five clubs remain in the mix for a top-six finish including Haji Wright and Coventry City and Aidan Morris and Middlesbrough. The USMNT pair will square off on May 3, in what should be a dramatic final day in the EFL Championship.
Coventry City suffered a 1-0 loss to Luton Town on Saturday, however remain in sixth place following results elsewhere. Wright played the full 90 minutes in the match.
Middlesbrough drew Norwich City 0-0 at the Riverside Stadium, with Morris playing the full 90 minutes as well. Norwich’s Angus Gunn registered a five-save clean sheet for the visiting Canaries.
Millwall defeated Swansea City 1-0 at the Den while Blackburn Rovers earned a 2-1 home victory over Watford.
Bristol City travels to already-promoted Leeds United on Monday night.
