Fulham are among several Premier League clubs monitoring the situation of Kyle Walker-Peters at Southampton.
Southampton have already been relegated from the Premier League at the first time of asking. They equalled Derby County’s record-low Premier League points tally with a 1-1 draw at West Ham United on Saturday. As the Saints will play in the Championship next season, several players are expected to leave the club this summer.
Kyle Walker-Peters is certainly one of them. The full-back will be out of contract at the St Mary’s Stadium at the end of June and has been reluctant to pen fresh terms. So, he will leave Southampton on a free transfer, with Fulham reportedly keen to offer him a Premier League lifeline.
The Englishman, 28, has been one of the rare bright sparks in an otherwise disastrous campaign for Southampton. Walker-Peters has operated in multiple defensive roles this season, registering two assists in 31 Premier League appearances. The Saints’ relegation has been confirmed, so the full-back will want to compete at a high level by staying in the Premier League.
Fulham ready to offer Kyle Walker-Peters Premier League lifeline
Fulham have enjoyed a fantastic 2024/25 campaign, punching above their weights under Marco Silva. They are ninth in the table, and despite suffering a stoppage-time heartbreaking loss to arch-rivals Chelsea at home on Sunday, Silva’s side still have an outside chance of sneaking into the European spots.
Given the kind of season they have enjoyed, the Cottagers’ board are likely to back the Portuguese tactician wholeheartedly during the forthcoming summer transfer window. Silva appears to be keen on reinforcing his defensive options, with a full-back eyed to compete with the likes of Kenny Tete, Antonee Robinson and Timothy Castagne next season.
Walker-Peters has emerged on Fulham’s radar, but they are not the only club interested in signing the Southampton star. The two-cap England international is a right-back by trade but can also operate as a left-back and wing-back, and such versatility could make him a utility man for the West London club. He is a Premier League-proven commodity and could prove to be an ideal acquisition for Silva’s side on a free transfer.
Signing the Edmonton native would allow Silva to address other problems in his squad as well. Fulham have an ambitious project with Silva leading the charge. The club has improved under the Portuguese’s tutelage, so Walker-Peters could be enticed to the prospect of joining the Cottagers. At 28, he is at the peak of his powers and would improve Fulham defensively.
All in all, Fulham winning the race for Walker-Peters’ signature on a free transfer this summer would represent a terrific move.
