Ethan Horvath enjoyed a victory in a rare league start for EFL Championship club Cardiff City.
Horvath made one save as the Bluebirds defeated Hull City 1-0 in Wales on Tuesday night. The U.S. men’s national team goalkeeper earned his first league start since August 31, celebrating a first league victory of the campaign.
Callum Robinson’s 52nd minute finish propelled the hosts in front after a goal-less first half.
Horvath, who had little to do on the night, denied Alfie Jones’ header attempt in the 84th minute for his lone save.
It marked Horvath’s third-consecutive win across multiple competitions, which featured back-to-back FA Cup triumphs against Sheffield United and Stoke City.
The result moved Cardiff City six points clear of the relegation zone with 12 matches left to play.
Horvath could remain in between the posts following Jak Alnwick’s thigh injury. Alnwick is expected to miss several weeks which could open the door for Horvath to grab the No. 1 job.
Up next for Cardiff City is an FA Cup date with Aston Villa on Friday before returning to league play on March 4 against Burnley.
