Josh Sargent won’t be headed to the EFL Championship promotion playoffs but that didn’t stop him from earning one of the league’s highest honors.
Sargent was named to the EFL Championship Team of the Season, the league announced Sunday. The Norwich City striker was a key player this season, despite the Canaries failing to reach the promotion playoffs.
Sargent scored 15 goals in 32 appearances this season, which are the second-most goals in the Norwich City squad. The Missouri native missed parts of three months due to a groin injury suffered during the first half of the season.
Should Sargent score twice in the Canaries’ season finale, he will hit the 50-goal plateau for his Canaries’ career.
He was the lone American player named to the EFL Championship Team of the Season.
Whether or not Sargent remains at Carrow Road next season remains to be seen, especially with growing interest from Premier League clubs.
