KARACHI: In a major breakthrough, Karachi police have thwarted a large-scale attempt to smuggle hundreds of premium smartphones concealed inside a modified vehicle.
Acting on intelligence, Kemari Police, along with support from a security agency, stopped a suspicious Revo near the Macho Police Check-Post. A detailed search revealed a staggering 618 mobile phones hidden in secret compartments of the vehicle.
Among the seized devices were 198 iPhones, 509 high-end Android phones, and 40 non-PTA phones allegedly used for iPhone-related operations.
Two suspects, Noor Ullah and Mohammad Hashim, were taken into custody at the scene. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Captain (R) Faizan Ali, the vehicle had been cleverly altered to smuggle the devices discreetly.
The seized phones and the vehicle will be handed over to customs for further legal action once police procedures are completed.
