The Institute of Contemporary Art Miami (ICA) this month unveils Olga de Amaral, an exhibition of works by the groundbreaking Colombian artist known for transforming the language of textiles and fiber art. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporary and features more than 50 works spanning six decades of Amaral’s practice.
From gold leaf Estelas to cloud like Brumas suspended from the ceiling, Amaral’s work fuses indigenous weaving traditions with Bauhaus principles and Modernist abstraction, challenging the boundaries between art, craft, and architecture. The exhibition is on view through October 12 and includes pieces originally commissioned for major public spaces, including Miami International Airport.
Curated by ICA Miami’s Stephanie Seidel and Fondation Cartier’s Marie Perennès, with an immersive exhibition design by award-winning architect Lina Ghotmeh, the show invites viewers into a meditative “vertical forest” where Amaral’s tactile, light-absorbing works take center stage.
ICA is located at 61 NE 41st Street, Miami, 33137. For more information, visit icamiami.org.
