A man has been apprehended for sharing a fabricated and defamatory video aimed at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, according to a source on Sunday.
The incident took place in Garha Mor, where a case was filed at Tibba Sultanpur Police Station under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). The individual, named Ashfaq, allegedly posted the misleading video in a WhatsApp group with the intent to mock and defame the CM.
The authorities confirmed that the video was not only false but also malicious, designed to tarnish the reputation of a public official. This led to immediate legal action from the police.
Tibba Sultanpur, a town between Multan and Vehari, has now become the center of a significant cybercrime investigation.
Law enforcement officials have stressed the importance of cracking down on digital defamation, using PECA laws to combat the spread of misinformation and online character attacks.
