With Kevin De Bruyne set to bid farewell to the Etihad, Manchester City are already scouring Europe for a worthy successor — and Nicolo Barella has shot to the top of their wishlist.
According to Fichajes, City are monitoring Barella’s situation at Inter Milan as Pep Guardiola prepares for a crucial summer rebuild. The Belgian maestro has confirmed the upcoming Manchester Derby will be his last in sky blue, signalling the end of a legendary era.
The 28-year-old Italian international has been pivotal for Simone Inzaghi’s Serie A-winning side and remains under contract until 2029, meaning Inter won’t let him leave on the cheap. Still, City’s financial muscle and Champions League ambitions make them a tempting destination.
Alongside Barella, other targets reportedly include AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders and Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez. Florian Wirtz has also been considered, though Bayern Munich seems his preferred landing spot.
Can Barella fill De Bruyne’s boots? If City can match Inter’s valuation and convince the midfielder to swap Milan for Manchester, fans could soon see a new midfield maestro leading the charge at the Etihad.
