Manchester United are considering a move for West Ham United defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to reports from Give Me Sport. With Lisandro Martínez sidelined due to a long-term injury, the Red Devils are exploring multiple options to strengthen their defence ahead of the summer transfer window.
Todibo, a 25-year-old French international, joined West Ham United from OGC Nice last summer in a deal worth £34.22 million. The transfer was initially structured as a loan with an obligation to buy, but despite that arrangement, the Hammers are reportedly open to offloading him in the next window.
Juventus had shown interest in Todibo last summer and again in January, but now Manchester United have emerged as a potential suitor. West Ham’s willingness to part ways with the centre-back could provide the Red Devils with an opportunity to bolster their defence at a reasonable price.
Manchester United’s Defensive Woes
Lisandro Martínez’s ACL injury, which is expected to keep him out for around ten months, has forced United to prioritise a central defender in the upcoming transfer window. The club have long admired Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but with Everton keen to offer him a new contract, securing his signature could be challenging.
Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande is another target, with manager Ruben Amorim valuing him highly. However, both Branthwaite and Diomande are expected to command hefty transfer fees, making Todibo a potentially more affordable alternative.
Todibo on United’s Radar
Manchester United were previously linked with Todibo following INEOS’s involvement in the club. Given INEOS’s existing connections with the French defender, they could push for his signing if the right opportunity arises.
One potential route for United could involve offering Harry Maguire in a swap deal, hoping to pique West Ham’s interest in the experienced English centre-back. Ultimately, any move for Todibo will depend on United’s ability to secure their primary targets and West Ham’s final asking price.
