Manchester United are favourites to sign 22-year-old Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap for £30m, thanks to a release clause triggered by Ipswich imminent relegation. Delap has scored 12 goals and made 2 assists in 31 league games. Arsenal have surprisingly dropped interest, while Chelsea, Tottenham, and several European clubs remain keen.
After the confirmation of Ipswich Town’s likely relegation from the Premier League, Manchester United have emerged as the frontrunners to sign striker Liam Delap for £30 million, thanks to a clause in his contract. The 22-year-old forward has scored 12 goals and provided 2 assists in 31 league appearances—an impressive return given Ipswich are third from bottom, with only four wins in 32 matches.
Delap’s consistent performances have attracted interest from top Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham, along with teams in Spain and Germany. However, Arsenal have surprisingly opted out of the race, despite needing a striker. The Gunners had previously targeted Ollie Watkins and other names like Isak, Sesko, and Osimhen, but have now shifted focus away from Delap.
United’s pursuit of Delap highlights concerns over their current attacking lineup, especially £72 million signing Rasmus Hojlund, who has struggled this season. New manager Ruben Amorim is expected to revamp the squad, with Alan Shearer insisting United also need a new goalkeeper and central midfielder.
Despite the buzz, Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson warned that Delap may not be ready for a club of United’s stature and suggested a smaller move would better suit his development at this stage.
