WhatsApp is introducing new artificial intelligence features in its latest beta updates for Android, enhancing customization and accessibility for users. The platform, owned by Meta, has started testing AI-generated group icons and a main screen widget for its Meta AI chatbot, aiming to improve the user experience.
AI-Generated Group Icons for Customization
A new feature in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.6.10 allows users to create unique group icons using AI. New images can be generated from prompted inputs by beta testers by utilizing the “Create AI Image” option within the editing interface for group profile pictures. The system provides users with access to a plethora of AI-generated icons, which they may select prior to designating a group icon.
According to WABetaInfo, the improvement enables the customization of group conversations through AI, eliminating the need for manual image editing or reliance on preexisting images.
Meta AI Widget for Quick Access
WhatsApp featured the Meta AI widget in its Android beta 2.25.6.14 update, along with the AI-generated icon functionality. This home screen widget allows users to access the Meta AI chatbot without having to open the application.
According to reports, the widget has three options: “Ask Meta AI,” “camera,” and “voice.” Although testers observed several versions of the interface that displayed the “Ask Meta AI” button as its sole component while offering a minimal and organised feature set.
Both features are currently in beta testing, with a broader rollout expected soon for WhatsApp users on iOS and Android.
