Rawalpindi police have made their first arrest under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) after being granted expanded authority to combat cyber offenses. A TikToker was detained for allegedly sharing offensive content targeting senior government and military figures on social media.
Authorities claim the suspect published multiple posts deemed insulting to a high-ranking military official and the Punjab chief minister. As a result, a case was filed under Section 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 20 of the PECA Act 2016.
Investigators suspect the individual was linked to a political group and had intentionally posted content critical of national institutions. Officials argue that such activity could erode public trust and fuel unrest.
The suspect is currently in police custody as authorities further examine his digital footprint and social media activity. Law enforcement has issued a warning that strict measures will be enforced against individuals misusing social platforms to spread misleading information or provoke dissent.
