Southern Indiana counties to remain under tornado watch until 11 p.m.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch Sunday afternoon for the following southern Indiana counties: Gibson, Pike, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick. The watch will remain in effect until 11 p.m. CST.
The NWS issues a tornado watch when tornadoes “are possible in and near the watch area,” the agency’s website states. Should direct observation or radar indict the presence of a tornado, a “watch” will transition to a “warning.”
You can read more about tornado watches and warnings here.
The NWS encourages residents living within the boundaries of a tornado watch to review and discuss emergency plans with family members; to take inventory of emergency supplies and to identify an interior “safe room” away from windows.
