Her work spans curriculum development, e-learning, and organizing international workshops on cyber security and innovative technologies. Dr. Mohuya has also contributed to accreditation processes and advised IEEE student chapters in communication and computational intelligence. Here Dr. Mohuya provides an overview of her extensive academic and professional career, highlighting her roles as Director of the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, Dean of Faculty Welfare, and Professor at UEM Kolkata, along with her expertise in AI, blockchain, and network security, backed by over 90 publications and multiple prestigious awards.
- Could you share an overview of your career and expertise?
Certainly! I currently serve as the Director of the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence (CCoE), Dean of Faculty Welfare and HRDC, and Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Engineering & Management (UEM), Kolkata. Previously, I was the Head of the Department for Computer Science and IT for 13 years.
I completed my B.Tech and M.Tech from the Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta, in 1994 and 2000, respectively, and earned my PhD in Engineering, focusing on Mobile Computing, from Jadavpur University in 2007. I have also attained a CMI Level 5 certification in Leadership and Management from Dudley College, London, UK, in 2019.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to receive accolades, such as being the M.Tech topper and receiving the prestigious Paresh Lal Dhar Bhowmik Award from the University of Calcutta. Additionally, I was honored with the Rashtriya Gaurav Award in 2019 and recognized as one of the Top 50 Distinguished HODs of CSE/IT Departments in Higher Education Across India by uLektz in 2020.
I’ve had the opportunity to publish over 90 research papers in reputed international journals and conferences, file four patents, and contribute as an editor for notable publications such as “The Essence of Network Security: An End-To-End Panorama” by Springer. My primary areas of research include artificial intelligence, blockchain, network security, cognitive radio, brain-computer interfaces, and parallel computing.
- Could you describe an interesting project or research you’ve worked on?
Of course! I’ve worked on many exciting projects in my consultancy career. Recently, I’ve been involved in four blockchain projects with the XDC Blockchain Network. For example, the first project assessed the XDC Network’s decentralization, scalability, and security. The second project focused on designing and implementing gasless subnet staking for the network. Both projects culminated in authoring technical whitepapers.
Another intriguing project I tackled was implementing Explainable AI for Intrusion Detection Systems in IoT devices, followed by its integration with blockchain. This project, completed in 2023, was particularly challenging but immensely rewarding.
- What are some key global trends in your field or the freelancing industry?
I’m observing several significant trends. The convergence of blockchain and AI is opening up novel avenues, such as decentralized AI models and AI-enhanced smart contracts. My research increasingly focuses on security, privacy, authentication, scalability, and fairness in these integrations.
In the freelancing industry, there’s a growing demand for professionals skilled in blockchain and AI, particularly for projects related to decentralized finance (DeFi), AI-powered automation, and privacy-focused applications. Emerging opportunities include developing AI-driven blockchain protocols, smart contracts for AI systems, and decentralized AI marketplaces.
To remain competitive, staying updated on advancements like zero-knowledge proofs, AI model optimization, and blockchain scaling solutions—such as sharding and layer-2 protocols—is crucial.
- Can you highlight some of your recent publications or projects?
Certainly. I’ve published over 90 research works across peer-reviewed journals, books, whitepapers, and conference proceedings. A few highlights include:
- XDC Network Decentralization, Scalability, and Security Whitepaper: This work showcases my expertise in blockchain network analysis and architecture, including evaluations of decentralization and security.
- Gasless Subnet for XDC Network: I proposed a model to eliminate transaction fees, improving blockchain scalability and user experience.
- HAI PROMISE Framework: This framework integrates human and artificial intelligence for leadership and well-being, reflecting my interest in holistic systems thinking.
- Hybrid Ensemble Learning for Sector-Based Investment Grading: This project applied Explainable AI tools to real-world data, highlighting my commitment to transparency and trust in AI models.
These works emphasize my technical expertise across areas like AI, blockchain, and telecommunications, while also demonstrating my ability to address real-world challenges.
