Forward, Matty Stevens has signed a new contract extension with AFC Wimbledon until June 2027.
Stevens arrived at Plough Lane last summer and has gone on to score 21 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions, which included a header in their surprise Carabao Cup second-round victory at home to Ipswich via penalties, plus goals against MK Dons and Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup.
Following confirmation of his new contract until June 2027, Stevens was delighted to commit his future to the club for two more seasons, but is keen to stay focused on AFC Wimbledon’s push for automatic promotion to League One.
“I’m over the moon. I’ve always said since I got here that I’ve really enjoyed it and I think this extension underlines that.
“The main thing now is to focus on matters on the pitch. Myself and my family are delighted to get this agreement done.
“The fans, staff and players have made me feel so comfortable here – they all played a big role in my decision. Now we have to come together to get us over the line and back into League One.”
Manager, Johnnie Jackson is “delighted” to see Stevens sign his new contract as he praised the striker for his performances this season.
“He’s been a mainstay in the team and scored lots of goals. He gives everything for the badge every time he steps on the pitch.”
AFC Wimbledon’s Director of Football, Craig Cope added: “We’re really pleased to secure Matty on a longer term deal, he’s obviously performed well on the pitch but both Matty and his family have really bought into Wimbledon, so I look forward to continuing the journey together.”
