Telus has launched GameRx, a new initiative that aims to highlight the benefits video games can have on wellness.
Developed by Telus Health, the online resource provides science-backed gaming recommendations to Canadians based on their particular needs. For example, to improve stress, focus and memory, GameRx suggests puzzle games like Tetris and Unpacking, while it notes that cozy games such as Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley can reduce stress and “exergames” like Ring Fit Adventure and Beat Saber in VR can promote physical activity.
You can find these recommendations broken down by both wellness type and genre. Each page will also provide links to additional resources from medical publications and other trustworthy sources so you can learn more.
Citing its own research, Telus Health says 37 percent of Canadians are now at “high mental health risk,” which was one of the impetuses for launching GameRx. It also notes that in a survey it conducted among 1,200 Canadians, 76 percent of respondents said they don’t believe gaming and wellness match, providing further incentive to create GameRx and dispel this misconception.
