Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a surprise swoop for Chelsea’s versatile young talent Renato Veiga ahead of the summer transfer window. According to Graeme Bailey of TBR Football, Spurs are keen to bolster their backline, and the 21-year-old Portuguese international has emerged as a target.
A Versatile Talent with Growing Demand
Renato Veiga’s journey has been anything but ordinary. After rising through the ranks at Sporting CP, the Lisbon-born defender made a name for himself at FC Basel in Switzerland. His impressive performances there caught Chelsea’s attention, who pulled off a surprise move last summer to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
Despite his potential, Veiga struggled to secure a consistent role under Enzo Maresca, featuring in multiple positions but never fully settling. Eager to play as a centre-back, the youngster made a January switch to Juventus on loan, where he’s begun to show his quality in Italy’s top flight.
Spurs Looking to Strengthen the Backline
With Radu Dragusin sidelined and Cristian Romero linked with a potential move to La Liga, Tottenham are in the market for defensive reinforcements. While other names like Yusuf Akcicek are also being considered, Veiga’s versatility and European experience make him an intriguing option.
However, Spurs aren’t alone. Brighton & Hove Albion are also monitoring Veiga closely, while AC Milan are believed to be in the mix too. With competition heating up, a move across London could be on the cards—if Tottenham act fast.
