UPDATE: Young Thug’s Lawyer Brian Steel Joins Diddy’s Legal Team Amid Reported Search For Black Woman Defense Attorney
Update: Attorney Brian Steel, known for defending Young Thug, is now representing Sean “Diddy” Combs in his ongoing legal matters.
In a motion filed Tuesday, Steel formally requested to appear as Diddy’s counsel. Legal affairs journalist Meghann Cuniff broke the news on Twitter, writing, “Here’s something I didn’t expect to write: Young Thug’s lawyer Brian Steel has joined Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ criminal defense team.”
In addition to Steel, this week it was reported that Diddy was also seeking a Black woman to join his legal team.
Steel famously helped Young Thug walk free. Do you think he’ll do the same for Diddy?
Original Story: Diddy is reportedly looking for a Black woman attorney as his federal s*x trafficking trial approaches.
According to TMZ, sources say that following the exit of Anthony Ricco, Diddy’s legal team is looking to add a Black woman lawyer to his current lineup. His lead attorneys, Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, are both white, but the source explains that the new addition wouldn’t just be for appearances. The attorney must have the legal chops to take on this high-profile case.
This move comes after Diddy’s team previously accused federal authorities of targeting him because he is a rich, successful Black man. The search could be an effort to reinforce that defense in court.
Jury selection is currently set for May 5, with opening statements one week later.
