Only Noor Ahmad, Shardul Thakur and Khaleen Ahmed have more wickets than Varun Chakaravarthy in the IPL 2025 season.
Varun Chakaravarthy has built on his incredible form. The Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) mystery spinner absolutely spun a web around the Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter. The Shreyas Iyer-led side were already struggling, having lost 2 wickets by the time KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane introduced him in the 5th over of the match.
Varun Chakaravarthy sweeps Josh Inglis away
Chakaravarthy would have taken 8 wickets in the last 6 matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, claimed the wicket of Josh Inglis on his fifth ball. The wicketkeeper is one of rare Australian batters, who is known for his ability to play spin. But against Chakaravarthy, he didn’t stand a chance. Inglis went to sweep the ball but the mystery bowled a good length ball that skidded off the surface and pegged the middle stump back.
Glenn Maxwell left stunned
Rahane then decided to hold Chakaravarthy for the middle overs. In the mean time, Harshit Rana and Anrich Nortje struck as PBKS slumped to 74/5. When the spinner came back in the tenth over, Glenn Maxwell and Shashank Singh looked to build a partnership.
But on the very first ball of his spell, Chakaravarthy bowled a beautiful googly than spun a mile and hit the middle stump. It was short ball that Maxwell looked to play on the front foot but he couldn’t have accounted for the fact that the ball would come in so much. A peach of a delivery and there was nothing Maxwell could do about it.
