US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Wednesday that after Wall Street’s wealth gains in recent decades, it is now smaller institutions’ turn — addressing bankers shortly after President Donald Trump’s fresh tariffs struck fear through markets.
“Wall Street has grown wealthier than ever before, and it can continue to grow and do well. But for the next four years, the Trump agenda is focused on Main Street. It’s Main Street’s turn,” Bessent told a summit in Washington, hours after steep tariffs took effect and China announced further retaliation.
