Sheffield United host Coventry City in a huge Championship showdown in the race for promotion.
Victory or a draw would put Chris Wilder’s Blades top of the table heading into the weekend, whilst Coventry will stay fifth with a win.
Team News
Tom Davies could return for Sheffield Utd after he missed their last four matches as he continued to build up his match fitness.
Harry Clarke (foot), Alfie Gilchrist (ankle) and Vinicius Souza (hamstring) could also be available if fit for selection.
Oliver Arblaster (ACL), Rhys Norrington-Davies (groin) and Jamie Shackleton (foot) remain ruled out.
Coventry could welcome Ben Sheaf back after he missed their last two matches with a knock.
Brandon Thomas-Asante (pelvis) and Jack Rudoni (shoulder) could also feature if match fit.
When is Kick-Off?
Sheffield Utd host Coventry at Bramall Lane on Friday 28 March at 8pm GMT, live on ITV4, ITVX and Sky Sports Football in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Sheffield Utd have won one of their last five meetings against Coventry (W1, D2, L2).
- Coventry are winless in their last six visits to Sheffield Utd (D2, L4).
- Sheffield Utd have kept clean sheets in three of their last four home games against Coventry, only failing to do so in their last clash at Bramall Lane which the Blades won 3-1 in December 2022.
- Tyrese Campbell has scored each of Sheffield Utd’s last two goals at home (W1, D1).
- Coventry have conceded five goals in their last three away matches (W2, L1).
Prediction
Having grinded out a gutsy clinical win over Sheffield Wednesday before the international break, Utd now need to knuckle down and try to continue their current form because they can’t afford to slip up in this run-in with Burnley hot on their heels for automatic promotion.
Coventry likewise can’t afford to let their guard down if want a play-off spot which would be an achievement given where they were when Frank Lampard arrived, and can come into this game full of confidence after a ruthless demolition of Sunderland but they need a strong display to stop their poor away form in this fixture.
Chris Wilder’s Blades though will know that playing first after the international break isn’t easy after their defeat at Leeds in mid-October 2024 in this very same timeslot, but I do fancy them to get something with their home advantage this time round against a strong Coventry side in form.
Prediction: Sheffield Utd 1-1 Coventry
