Walsall meet Port Vale in a blockbuster top of League Two showdown in the race for automatic promotion.
Victory would see Walsall stay top of the table, whilst Port Vale can leapfrog their hosts to the summit with a win.
Team News
Walsall have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-2 draw at Doncaster in midweek.
Port Vale could again be without Kyle John and Tom Sang after the wing-backs missed the Valiants’ win over Bradford in midweek.
Ben Heneghan, Jaime Headley and George Byers remain sidelined with injuries.
When is Kick-Off?
Walsall host Port Vale at Bescot Stadium on Saturday 5 April at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ Red Button in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Walsall are unbeaten in their last seven league meetings against Port Vale (W6, D1).
- Port Vale have won one of their last five league trips to Walsall (W1, D1, L3).
- Victory would see Walsall record three consecutive home wins over Port Vale in the league for the first time since October 1983 – October 1987.
- Walsall have won just one of their last six home games (W1, D3, L2).
- No Port Vale players has been involved in more league goals this season than Jayden Stockley and Lorent Tolaj, who have both scored nine goals and contributed six assists.
Prediction
Currently winless in their last eight matches and with the chasing pack now literally right on their shoulders, Walsall really need to cut out their defensive errors after they twice fought back to draw at Doncaster but their attacking spark is still ever present and that might just prove enough come the final day of season to secure promotion.
Port Vale though will come here full of confidence after two clinical morale-boosting wins over Crewe Alexandra and Bradford when could of slipped up, yet they won with clean sheets but I think another clean sheet might be a tough ask here.
Nevertheless I seriously expect this to be a close cagey battle as both teams won’t want to drop points but Walsall need to end their winless rut soon, although I don’t see that happening here if Port Vale are at their resilient best.
Prediction: Walsall 1-1 Port Vale
