Coventry look to reignite their Championship play-off push against relegation-battling Portsmouth.
Victory will lift Coventry up to sixth in the table, whilst Portsmouth can climb to 16th with a win if QPR fail to beat Oxford United.
Team News
Norman Bassette is unlikely to feature for Coventry after he missed their defeat to Burnley with a knee injury.
Oliver Dovin (ACL), Josh Eccles (calf) and Brandon Thomas-Asante (pelvis) are still sidelined.
Portsmouth have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-1 loss at Millwall as Zak Swanson remains ruled out with a heel injury.
Callum Lang, Connor Shaughnessy (both hamstring), Rob Atkinson (calf), Hayden Matthews (ankle), Ibane Bowat, Paddy Lane, Kusini Yengi and Jacob Farrell (all knee) remain sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Coventry host Portsmouth at CBS Arena on Wednesday 9 April at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports Football in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Coventry have won one of their last five meetings against Portsmouth (W1, D1, L3).
- Portsmouth have won one of their last five league trips to Coventry (W1, D1, L3).
- Both teams have won their last two meetings on Coventry’s home turf by 1-0 results – with the Sky Blues having played at Birmingham City in a groundshare when they last played Portsmouth as the ‘home’ team in February 2020.
- Coventry’s last four goals at home have been scored by Haji Wright (W1, L1), during which Liam Kitching was booked in both games.
- Portsmouth have lost each of their last two away games by 2-1 results.
Prediction
After suffering two difficult defeats to tough opposition, Coventry will be relieved to have a fairly easier fixture here on paper but they need to switch on defensively following two sloppy displays, especially after they took a clinical early lead against Burnley who ultimately just had the better final touches.
Portsmouth aren’t totally safe so just need to try and keep playing with the confidence that they’re doing but cut out the defensive errors which cost them in their last two away games, particularly given that their form on the road hasn’t exactly been impressive this season.
I however just don’t see Coventry losing this if they turn up with the right attitude but Portsmouth should give them a fair fight.
Prediction: Coventry 2-0 Portsmouth
