YouTube users across various platforms have reported experiencing lower-than-usual video quality, with many finding their videos automatically defaulting to 144p or 360p despite having a strong internet connection. Google confirmed the technical issue and stated that an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause.
According to reports from affected users, the problem impacts a variety of devices, since customers from all platforms, including iPhones, laptops, and Smart TVs, have voiced identical concerns.
Some viewers report persistent buffering while attempting to adjust resolutions, which adds to the difficulty of watching YouTube videos. Users who have been let down by the platform have vented their anger on Reddit, expressing their displeasure with how Netflix handled the matter.
One YouTube user shared, “Every video I click on YouTube the quality automatically sets to 144p even if I try to manually change it higher, it just reverts back to 144p.”
Meanwhile, a YouTube Premium subscriber added, “This is beyond frustrating considering I’m paying an outrageous price for YT Premium every month and they didn’t even try to help.”
Multiple troubleshooting methods including device resetting, app reloading, network connection modifications and YouTube reinstalling failed to solve the issue. The company confirmed active investigation into the problem without providing any short-term solution.
A Google employee, identified as Camila from TeamYouTube, addressed the issue in a community update, stating, “We’re aware some of you are experiencing lower-than-usual video quality when trying to watch videos and shorts. Rest assured, we’re actively looking into this!”
For now, YouTube users experiencing the problem will have to wait for further updates from Google, as the company continues its investigation into the root cause of the video quality issues.
